New York, Tuesday, April 14, 2026 — FeedbackNow today released its Q1 2026 Global Airports Index, revealing a defining shift in global air travel: airport performance is improving in pockets — but breaking in critical, high-impact moments.
While global passenger satisfaction rose to 75% (up from 73% in Q4 2025), year-over-year performance remains flat, signaling what the report identifies as “the illusion of progress.” Gains across select touchpoints are being offset by emerging breakdowns elsewhere in the journey.
The report, based on millions of real-time passenger responses, highlights a growing divide between where airports are winning — and where they are increasingly under pressure.
Key Trends Defining Airport Performance in 2026
Departures Is the New Battleground
Departures has emerged as the most critical — and unexpected — failure point:
- Down 7 points QoQ
- Down 4 points YoY
As congestion and passenger volumes outpace infrastructure, the most central moment of the journey is now under the greatest strain.
Security Pressure Is Rising in North America
North America remains the lowest-performing region at 70%, with declines tied in part to ongoing United States TSA challenges, including staffing shortages and longer screening times. These pressures are cascading into Security and Departures — two of the most time-sensitive moments in travel.
Human vs. Digital: A Growing Divide
The data reveals a clear shift:
- Human-supported touchpoints like Information Desks (91%) and Lounges (82%) lead performance
- More automated experiences, including Check-in and Rental Cars, are flat or declining
Efficiency is no longer enough — passengers are responding more strongly to human interaction.
The Rise of Experience Inequality
A widening gap now exists across the passenger journey, with performance varying dramatically between touchpoints. Passengers are no longer having a single airport experience — but a series of inconsistent moments, reshaping how airports are evaluated.
Cleanliness Still Wins — But No Longer Differentiates
While Restrooms (86%) and F&B continue to perform well, cleanliness has become a baseline expectation rather than a competitive advantage.
Regional Momentum Is Shifting
Performance is diverging globally:
- Rest of World (86%) and Africa (81%) lead
- North America and Europe lag
Newer, less congested systems are gaining ground, signaling a shift in where airport experience leadership is emerging.
The Mid-Size Airport Gap
Mid-size airports (5–15M passengers) are seeing the sharpest declines, caught between rising complexity and limited investment — while large hubs are improving.
Third-Party Experience Is Now Core
Touchpoints like Rental Cars (down 6 points YoY) are becoming more influential, reinforcing passengers to see the journey as one continuous experience — not separate operators.
From Measurement to Action: Speed Becomes the New Advantage
The Q1 2026 Index points to a fundamental shift in airport operations:
the competitive advantage is no longer measurement — it is speed.
Airports that can detect and resolve issues in real time are outperforming those relying on traditional reporting cycles.
“Airports are no longer competing on infrastructure alone — they’re competing on how quickly they can respond,” said Steve Peltzman, CEO of FeedbackNow. “The data shows clearly where the experience is winning, where it’s breaking, and that speed of action is now the defining factor.”
Unlocking Real-Time and Predictive Performance
The Index reflects growing adoption of FeedbackNow’s real-time feedback and predictive analytics capabilities, including it’s FlexBox and V4 platform, enabling airports to:
